GCOM313: Beginning Page Layout using Adobe InDesign
This course is an introduction to page layout, page composition, and electronic publishing utilizing a graphic design industry-standard software, Adobe InDesign. Students will discover how to effectively use the software to design brochures, newsletters, catalogs, and a variety of other publishing materials that follow basic page layout and design principles. The ITV section of this class meets Monday 9:30 – 11:45am in LRC-120. The in-person section meets Monday 7:00 – 9:05pm in DM-108.
GCOM 319: Print and Multimedia Publication Design
Formerly the Newspaper Design class, this is now a full multimedia publication focus: web, magazine and newspaper design and production. This class works closely with Journalism and Photography students to produce the student newspaper, Express, it’s web site, SacCityExpress.com, the student magazine, Mainline and it’s web site, and the annual Sussurus literary journal. This is one of our “real-world” classes that provides a true vocational work experience environment, and is highly recommended for students looking get a job in the graphic or web design field. The Mon/Wed 4:00 – 6:30pm schedule includes lab time and is somewhat flexible.
GCOM 331: Advanced Digital Imaging for Print, using Adobe Photoshop
This course centers on advanced image editing techniques using the latest version of Photoshop. In addition to learning advanced capabilities of Photoshop, students will learn how to alter existing images realistically, compose artwork in graphic situations, and creatively apply techniques to original artwork. Students will also learn how to work with service bureaus and commercial printers to produce quality output. The ITV section of this class meets Wednesday 9:00 – 11:50am in LRC-120. The in-person section meets Wednesday noon – 1:50pm in T-100.
GCOM332: Advanced Image Editing for Web/Multimedia, using Adobe Photoshop
This new advanced digital imaging class will focus on some of the newest and most exciting features of Adobe Photoshop CS5: 3D modeling and texturing, video frame editing and effects, simple animation, and web graphics and web site prototyping. This class will be an excellent experience for any students focusing on animation, game design, and motion or web design. Two sections of this class will be offered in Spring 2011.
