GCOM 319: Print and Multimedia Publication Design

Express_logoFormerly the Newspaper Design class, this is now a full multimedia publication focus: web, magazine and newspaper design and production. This class works closely with Journalism and Photography students to produce the student newspaper, Express, it’s web site, SacCityExpress.com, the student magazine, Mainline and it’s web site, and the annual Sussurus literary journal. This is one of our “real-world” classes that provides a true vocational work experience environment, and is highly recommended for students looking get a job in the graphic or web design field. The Mon/Wed 4:00pm – 6:30pm schedule includes lab time and is very flexible.

GCOM 331: Advanced Digital Imaging for Print, using Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop_CS4_LogoThis course centers on advanced image editing techniques using the latest version of Photoshop. In addition to learning advanced capabilities of Photoshop, students will learn how to alter existing images realistically, compose artwork in graphic situations, and creatively apply techniques to original artwork. Students will also learn how to work with service bureaus and commercial printers to produce quality out-put. This course may be taken three times for credit if the version of software being taught has changed. The class meets Wed. night from 7:00pm – 8:40pm

GCOM332: Advanced Image Editing for Web/Multimedia, Using Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop_CS4_LogoThis new advanced digital imaging class will focus on some of the newest and most exciting features of Adobe Photoshop CS4: 3D modeling and texturing, video frame editing and effects, simple animation, and web graphics and web site prototyping. This class will be an excellent experience for any students focusing on animation, game design, and motion or web design. It is being offered Thurs., 9am – 10:40am as an Interactive TV course, which gives you the option to attend class in person, watch a live public access TV broadcast, or watch a streamed video online (which is great if you have a work or class conflict).

GCOM360: Web Site Prototyping and Graphics (Adobe Fireworks)

fw_cs4_logoThis course is for those wishing to design and develop professional quality, graphics-rich Web sites. Using Adobe Fireworks, students will prototype original web pages as well as prepare and optimize a variety of graphics. Through lecture, demonstration, hands-on methods, and class/instructor critiques, students will understand the process for designing a graphics-rich Web site. Topics include developing graphic elements for a Web site using a visual theme, creating buttons and intuitive navigational elements, making background textures and images, understanding Web file formats, optimization, presenting to a client, and simple animation that enhances a Web site. This course may be taken twice for credit if the software version has changed. The class meets Mon 7:00pm – 9:05pm.
