JUNE 2010: I am proud to announce that this cover for the Sacramento News & Review won a first place for tabloid newspaper front page design from the 2010 California Newspaper Publishers Association (CNPA). I created the “Letters to Obama” logo and cover concept and worked with 3D artist Pat Crandley to turn it into a dynamic cover design. The annual CNPA awards are the largest statewide industry competition.
DON BUTTON
I am a professor of design and digital media at Sacramento City College. As a professional graphic designer, art director and photographer since 1987, I have devoted my career to creating bold, innovative visual communication, dramatic imagery, and preaching the gospel of form and function.
Although the bulk of my experience is in publication design and art direction, my portfolio includes work in identity, marketing, user interfaces and websites, menus, signage, environmental graphics, photography and illustration. My work has received over two dozen individual and group awards, and has been featured in both Print and How Magazines.
Now, as a full-time educator, I have taught software and digital design courses since 1999, and have lead or spoken at several design and publication industry seminars.
MY LIBRARY HOUSE
In August 2003 my wife and I bought an old neighborhood library building and spent a few years turning into our own custom mid-century modern-inspired home. This is that story: The Library House Web Diary
